Human Resources and Administration Coordinator (East Africa)

Position Overview:  

The HR and Admin. Coordinator will conduct all aspects of the Employee Life Cycle for our East Africa region. This position will ensure that all staff feel supported, engaged, motivated, and well-oriented to the organization as a whole. The Coordinator will work in partnership with HR staff in regional offices to stay aligned with and/or implement systems, processes and organizational culture. Additionally, the Coordinator will oversee the management of the Nairobi office, ensuring that it both demonstrates and fosters Root Capital’s culture and values.

Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of employee life cycle (50%)

  • Execute and administer HR processes, including but not limited to: recruiting, onboarding, retention, training and development, performance management, transitions, and data management.
  • Manage payroll administration in full compliance with both Root Capital’s requirements and the statutory requirements of each country.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with local labor laws and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain HR and Admin.  handbook and contracts, updating them when necessary.
  • Provide local context to annual benefits benchmarking and administrative compensation programs.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation and provision of training on HR related topics.
  • Manage employee relations, building and fostering connections with local staff to better understand their circumstances and their needs
  • Engage the team through team-building activities and recognition programs.
  • Ensure employee transitions are handled professionally and sensitively, comply with local labor laws, and are properly documented.
  • Establish and maintain relationship with local labor lawyers for guidance as needed on labor law matters.

Office Management and Admin. Coordination (50%)

  • Oversee internal communications and provide team updates on our organizational Intranet for the East Africa region.
  • Implement employee security plans, policies, and practices.
  • Ensure that employee records are up to date.
  • Coordinate IT needs and training with IT in Root Capital’s Cambridge headquarters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration and / or Human Resources.
  • Must be registered as a Human Resource Professional under the Kenya Human Resources Act.
  • 5+ years professional work experience.
  • 3+ years as an HR generalist in a position with similar or closely related functional activities.
  • Proven subject matter knowledge of and competency with HR best practices in the areas recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, compensation, performance management, terminations and compliance.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate projects, and manage tasks independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proactive, service oriented attitude.
  • Strong attitude towards compliance.

 

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
